SOS Primates is formed by a multidisciplinary team of people working in the world of primatology, animal welfare and conservation. Most have worked and collaborated in primates rescue centers in different countries, knowing firsthand the situation facing this group of animals. In order to publicize these problems and support projects that work on the conservation of these species, in 2012 they created SOS Primates.Accompanied by people with other skills who want to put their grain of sand in this cause, we hope to continue to grow and be able to count on your support.
SOS Primates is a non-profit organization whose main objectives are:
- Disseminate information on the biology, ethology and conservation status of primates
- Raise awareness of the threats faced by primates in their habitats
- Raise awareness of the well-being of captive primates and help improve inappropriate situations
- To spread the work of primates rescue centers around the world and to collaborate in their work through specific campaigns
Currently SOS Primates works closely with the Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation Center (CRPL). Located in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the center hosts more than 50 chimpanzees and 70 monkeys rescued from poaching and illegal trafficking. In this war-torn area, CRPL offers employment to more than 30 local workers and represents the only hope for the protection and survival of these fascinating animals. More info here .
